No fewer than 3000 ghost teachers and 800 non-existing primary schools have been discovered by the Kogi State Government during the recent screening exercise in the state.
Disclosing this in Lokoja, the State Accountant-General, Mr. Paul Audu, described the discovery as disquieting and emphasised that the situation would be dealt with accordingly.
He further revealed that names of genuine teachers who were erroneously omitted from the salary vouchers had also been compiled and incorporated into a master payroll to enable the government deal with authentic teachers.
Audu promised that problems associated with computations and payment of salaries would be over by the time the report of the screening committee was fully implemented
However he noted that members of staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board are currently undergoing training on e-payment computerisation, assuring that they will resume at their various duty post as soon as they complete their training.
He urged all teachers to be dedicated to their duties and desist from every fraudulent act, assuring that the state government would not condone such henceforth.
