A Grade 1 Area court sitting in Abuja has sentenced a 26-year-old man, Attah Obande to two months imprisonment for absconding from police custody at the Kubwa Divisional Police Station. Obande who resides at Jaji Street in Kubwa was sentenced for escape from lawful custody, an offence which is contrary to Section 172 of the Penal Code. According to the police prosecutor, Lukas Ephraim, while testifying in court said Obande, was detained on April 27 at about 11am at the Kubwa Divisional Police Station for being a public nuisance and attacking a police officer, sneaked out from detention but was chased after and re-arrested. The convict however pleaded guilty to the charge. Justice Marafa consequently sentenced the 26-year-old to two months imprisonment with an option of N5,000 fine.
