A 26-year-old man, Vincent Ifeanyi, was Wednesday, arraigned by an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and theft of goods and cash valued at N4, 938, 000.
DAILY POST recalls that the Police Prosecutor, ASP Isah Atanegbe, had earlier told the court that the accused conspired with others at large to break into a shop at CECI mega plaza supermarket, Alagbaka in Akure, on September 15 at about 7:30 p.m, where they stole 85 wrist watches valued at N800, 000 and Samsung Galaxy phones valued at N1.5 million.
Atanegbe said other items stolen by the accused were three cameras valued at N938, 000 and N1.7million cash all valued at N4, 938,000 being property of Odor Ogechukwu Emmanuel.
According to him,the offence is punishable under section 516,413(1) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, shop breaking and stealing.
Mr. Alex Balogun, Counsel to the accused, prayed the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms.
Balogun prayed his client be presumed innocent, adding that he (the client), was ready to present his father as surety to guarantee that he would not jump bail and would appear in court when needed.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Bob-Manuel Victoria, in her ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N2, 000,000 with one surety in like sum.
Victoria also directed that the residential address of the surety must be provided and verified by the court.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till November 11 for mention.
