The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Cordelia Nwawe, Akwa Ibom State Command, on Thursday, disclosed that one Effiong Mfreke, who killed his father, has confessed to the crime. The 25-year-old murder suspect, from Ikot Akpainyang Asutan village, in the Ibesikpo/Asutan Local Government Area of the state, had killed his father, Mr. Archibong Effiong after he (Effiong) beat his wife following a heated argument. Mfreke had reportedly picked up a plank with which he used to hit his father on the head. The PPRO who confirmed to newsmen, the death and arrest said, “The young man murdered his father by using a plank to hit him on his head.
“The young man will be charged to court after investigation,” the PPRO noted. According to the murder suspect, he returned from the farm and he met his parents quarrelling and got to know that his father was the cause.
He said, “My mother and father have been having issues. My father has not been feeding me; I cut palm fruit to feed myself.
“On Monday, at about 6pm, I returned home and met my father and mother quarrelling and fighting.
“I asked my mother what the problem was and she told me. My father came out and saw me; he threw a bottle at me and hit me with a plank.
“I was annoyed and I took the same plank and hit him back; he slumped and the next thing I heard was that he was dead,” Mfreke added.
