2019: Why we endorsed Ambode for second term – Lagos Senators

Three lawmakers representing Lagos State in the Senate yesterday endorsed the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, for a second term in office.

They cited massive infrastructure projects Ambode’s administration had embarked upon in less than three years in office as reason for their decision.

The lawmakers, Senator Gbenga Ashafa (Lagos East), Senator Oluremi Tinubu (Lagos Central) and Senator Solomon Olamilekan (Lagos West), passed a vote of confidence on the governor after a meeting at the State House, Ikeja.

After the meeting, the lawmakers justified their decision to endorse Ambode for re-election, noting that his administration had recorded enviable achievements in the last 33 months despite economic recession that almost crippled other states.

In a letter of endorsement they collectively signed, the lawmakers said they were indeed proud of Ambode’s achievements in less than three years and the renewed vigour he had brought to bear on public governance since he assumed office.

The letter, which Ashafa read on behalf of his colleagues, said Ambode had beyond reasonable doubt proved his mettle “to lead the state to greater heights, citing massive infrastructural development, strategic solutions to traffic gridlock as well as key interventions in various sectors in the State in the last 33 months.

“Since May 29, 2015, when you took the mantle of leadership, you have made it clear that you are out to deliver on all your campaign promises. Looking back today, we are very proud of your achievements and the renewed vigour which you have brought to the public service of Lagos State.

“We particularly are proud of the infrastructure development that you have brought to the entire State in general and to our districts in particular. Your smart solutions in tackling the traffic and security challenges that initially faced your administration have become template for other states to copy.

“Also, your strategic partnerships with Kebbi and Kano States have thrown more light to the capacity of Lagos State and the creative manager of man and resources which you are. We must also mention that through the course of the period which our country battled with an economic recession, you made sure that Lagos State remained well above the curve.”
