The faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State led by Deacon Okey Ogbodo has declared commitment for the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Party, while urging Ndigbo to support Buhari, said he had improved on the lots of abandoned federal infrastructures in the South East zone and would do more in his second term.
They equally declared that his reelection will pave the way for the tall dream of producing a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2023.
The Enugu APC faction in a communique issued after their meeting held at the weekend, also appraised the appointment of Chief Ken Nnamani, a former Senate President, as a member of the 2019 Presidential campaign council, on the position of National Vice chairman, (South).
They assured that Chief Nnamani will use his reputation to influence Ndigbo most especially and the entire Southern Nigeria to cast their votes for President Buhari better than they did in 2015.
Deacon Ogbodo, who briefed newsmen, stated that “after a thorough brainstorming session today, members of Enugu APC family loyal to my leadership expressed their undiluted and die hard support for the re-election bid of President Buhari for having proved that he loves Ndigbo by embarking on most of the federal projects in the zone that were either abandoned or neglected by the past administration produced by PDP. We are hoping he will complete these projects within his second tenure and also do more.
“We also reasoned his re-election as the shortest root for the realisation of our long dream of producing a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction. We believe once the Igbo nation is able to cast their majority votes for President Buhari this time around.
“Our stakeholders from this part of the country will be leveraged to negotiate for zoning the 2023 Presidency to the South East. Based on that principle we holistically agreed to mobilise our people for President Buhari’s election.”
He added that “We viewed the appointment of Chief Ken Nnamani as leader of Presidential campaign team in the entire South as good one. Every Nigerian knows Chief Ken Nnamani to have sacrificed selfish interests while he was senate president to have ensured the sustenance of the 4th Republic nascent democratic principles, at least by killing 3rd term moves of a past president.
“This singular reputation endears him to Ndigbo and other tribes in the country. I believe, he is better placed more than any other Igbo man or rather Southerner to convince our people of the need to vote massively for President Buhari. Categorically,We are banking on Chief Ken Nnamani’s political reputation to garner support for President Buhari, this time around.”
Reacting to allegation of anti-party activities leveled on Chief Ken Nnamani by his rival, Dr Ben Nwoye, Ogbodo described the allegations as ‘fallacious and uncharitable’, stating there was no evidence to substantiate the claim.
His words, “The town union project that was commissioned on the day in question was partly financed with resources from the state government, and anybody whether in or outside politics but with right mentality or temperament would normally give honour to whom it is due.
“Leadership and partisan politics in my humble view is not and should not be about denial of what is obvious, but ingenious invention of practicable alternatives to solving people’s needs.
“His claim without any shred of evidence that Chief Nnamani was anti-APC in Enugu state was both fallacious and uncharitable, particularly concerning a strong national leader of our party, appointed to play a crucial role in the run-up to the year’s general elections, within the Presidential Campaign Council”.
