The Chairman of the Benue State Traditional Council and Tor Tiv IV, Prof. James Ayatse, on Saturday, declared that it was high time the middle belt region produced the president of Nigeria.

The traditional ruler said it was the turn of central Nigeria to produce the president, after years of sacrifice for national unity and stability.

He spoke when a former Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher, paid him a courtesy visit.

He said, “Election in Nigeria is not all about money; there is something Nigerians are looking for.

“We have been on our own for over 50 years. The Middle Belt has suffered for the unity of Nigeria, yet power continues to rotate between the South and the far North; power has not resided with us in the Middle Belt since the civil rule era. So, I think it’s about time a Middle Belt person led Nigeria.”

Hagher, who was accompanied by a former Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, Mr. Chive Kaave, told the monarch that, “There is too much poverty in the land.”

“Nigeria needs a man who will totally submit himself to the will of the people and build a nation where everyone will live together as one,” he said.
