2019: Why I dumped my presidential ambition for senatorial race – Mimiko

The former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has explained why he dumped his presidential ambition for Ondo Central Senatorial District race.

Mimiko said decision was in the interest of his people, state and the country.

The former governor, who had few months ago disclosed his intention to contest the country’s number one seat under the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, announced his withdrawal from the race while meeting with his followers from the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo state as well as some national leaders of the party on Thursday in Ondo West Local Government area of the state.

According to Mimiko, he has been inundated with calls from across the states and country to jettison his presidential ambition as it has been narrowed to a race between Atiku and Buhari.

He further maintained that he was asked to go for the senatorial race to help build the party and sustain it.

“I took the decision in the ultimate interest of our party, the Zenith Labour Party, Ondo state and the country.”

Mimiko is, however, yet to disclose the candidate his party would be supporting in the 2019 presidential race.

Earlier, the senatorial candidate for Ondo Central Senatorial District, Gboye Adegbenro had confirmed stepping down for Mimiko.
