2019: Why Abians should respect zoning – Ohanaeze youths

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the National Leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has urged the people of Abia State to respect the existing zoning arrangement in the State.

The group, in a statement by its National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said such was necessary to ensure equity and justice in allocation of political power.

It equally said its support for Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia was predicated on his championing of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), through which many youths had been empowered.

According to the statement, “the OYC believes in equity and fairness in pursuant of political offices ahead of 2019.

“We understand that Abia Charter of Equity, which is the foundation of Abia. Power rotates between old Bende political bloc and old Aba (Ukwa-Ngwa) bloc.

“We will support the old Aba division to complete 8 years since old Bende had 16 years in Orji Kalu and Theodore Orji. Governor Ikpeazu has the support of Igbo Youths.

“As Abia celebrates her 27 years by August 27th 2018, we call our political leaders to respect the Abia Charter of Equity. OYC will support Otti and Uche Ogar in 2023 as it will be the turn of Abia North.

“Just like in Enugu, Nsukka is taking her fair share through Governor Ugwuanyi. In Delta, Anioma is producing the Governor for the first time. In Ebonyi, the Uburu/Afikpo axis is in the saddle for the first time, so our support for Governor Ikpeazu for 2019 is based on equity and fairness.

“He will defeat anyone who is not from Ukwa/Ngwa and since Ukwa/Ngwa has endorsed him, let the will of the people be respected.”
