Suleiman Ukandu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and member of the Abia State Advisory Council, has declared that the recent reconciliation of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar with former president Olusegun Obasanjo has brightened the chances of the PDP to form the next government in 2019.
Ukandu, who spoke with DAILY POST on Sunday while reacting to the endorsement of the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar by Obasanjo, explained that Obasanjo’s action was healthy to the quest by Nigerians to enthrone good governance and true democracy in the country.
The former Umuahia north local government council boss said, “The whole thing is based on national interest. Obasanjo, for all I know, has based his actions, philosophy, thinking on national interest in any given situation”.
“No matter what must have occurred or come between him and Atiku in the past,it should be given away for national interest, which is exactly the yearnings, the heartbeat of every Nigerian on how to protect the unity of the country”.
“So, I think what Obasanjo did was to show the statesmanship in him, and his love for this country, knowing fully well that the heartbeat of the Nigerians, the thinking of every Nigerian is, a new government that has a broad-based outlook, that can unite the country and can make us believe in the entrenchment of Nigeria as a united country, despite its muti-faceted approach, despite its muti-national outlook”.
“Nigerians presently need a broad-based government that can put confidence in the minds of every Nigerian. So, it was a good step in a right direction for him to have, not only for forgiving his Vice but also for endorsing him”.
” And I believe there will be a change of government in 2019,” he added.
