2019: We don’t engage in anti-party activities, you’re only seeking political relevance

The leadership of the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress headed by Ade Adetimehim has denied engaging in anti-party activities that would hinder the positive outing of the party in the state during the 2019 general elections.

Recall that on Wednesday, a group known as the Concerned Ondo APC Leaders accused the Ade Adetimehin-led exco of plotting against the successful outing of the party at the next year’s elections.

According to the leaders of the party in the state who called on the national body of the party to dissolve the state exco and put in its place a caretaker committee, the exco is set to work against some of the candidates of the party and in its stead canvass support for the Action Alliance, AA, which some aggrieved members who did not secure the party’s tickets decamped to.

Reacting to the position of the group which comprises that of the former deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Ali Olanusi who is member of the party’s BoT, former chairman of the party, Isaac Kekemeke among others, the Publicity Secretary of the party, Alex Kalejaye dismissed the statement of the group which he described as aggrieved members.

The statement issued in Akure and obtained by DAILY POST reads, “The Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has read with concern a statement credited to some aggrieved members of the party in the State to the effect that, among others, the State executive engages in anti-party activities, and should be dissolved.

“We feel obliged to say, in no ambiguous terms that members of the State executive have never, and will never contemplate anti-party in APC that holds so much hope for us, individually and collectively as a country.

“The State chapter is currently preoccupied with electioneering thoughts and strategies to achieve victory at the polls, come 2019 for all the APC candidates including President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The State Chairman of party, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, is a true democrat and a party man to the core, who is endowed with rich history of enviable stability in his political history and ideology. His loyalty to the party and its national leadership is without blemish, considering his political records from secord Republic to 1999 till date.

“The leader of the party and governor of the state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, can never compromise the fortune and development of the state and the party for whatever consideration.”

He further maintained that the focus of the party in the state was to unite all aggrieved members ahead of the 2019 general elections in order to form a formidable force.

The Publicity Secretary added that the Ali Olanusi-led group was only seeking relevance ahead of the general elections.

“Our priority in the last few months has been how to unite the party, appease aggrieved members and aspirants so that we can collectively deliver the State for our dear party during the general election next year.

“It was also comical that the Alhaji Alli Olanusi-led group claims that the State Executive of the party is funding opposition party, this is unfounded, strange and far from reality on ground.

“While we are reluctant to conclude that their action was triggered by the need to position themselves for patronage during the general elections, we urge the National Working Committee to discontinuance the agitation.

“We also cease this opportunity to appeal to all gladiators within the party to lower personal ego and grievances in the interest of the party.

“APC Executive led by Engr Adetimehin will continue to work hard to ensure unity of members and bring all aggrieved leaders and chieftains together for the overall interest of our dear party,”The statement read.
