Factional chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, in Bauchi State, Alhaji Amadu Chiroma has disclosed that two Assembly members for Shira and Bauchi metropolis, as well as South and Central senatorial aspirants, Dr Aliyu Dabo and Bappa Aliyu Misau have allegedly defected to the PRP in Bauchi.
Chiroma exclusively told DAILY POST in an interview, that the defectors might have dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, for allegedly denying them tickets to contest next year’s election.
He also stated that the defection may not be unconnected with the current crisis rocking the APC as a result of alleged non-conduct of primary elections.
The PRP chairman said, “Yes, I was told of the defection of top APC stalwarts to PRP but they were said to have been received by the Shehu Barau Ningi faction even though I am in possession of the party’s document including the key to its secretariat and I believe they will come to me.”
He however confirmed that many aggrieved APC aspirants had approached him to give them room to defect to PRP after losing the ticket of the ruling party.
DAILY POST correspondent, in a chat with one of the defectors and a former lawmaker for Darazo constituency, debunked insinuations of their defection to PRP, claiming it’s the handiwork of their political enemies.
He assured that journalists will be invited when they finally decide to declare for another party, stressing that for now, rumours of their defection is not true.
