Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has admitted that picking a consensus candidate “is part of democratic process”.
Tambuwal was speaking with newsmen shortly after picking up presidential nomination forms from the Wadata Plaza headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday.
He joins notable politicians like Senate President Bukola Saraki, former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, former caretaker chairman of the party Senator Ahmed Makarfi, etc. who have already declared their intention to run on the platform of the PDP.
When asked if he will support consensus, Tambuwal said: “I can’t say there is no need for consensus; it is part of democratic process.
“If there is a possibility of it, why not? If it is not possible, then, we all go for the primaries.
“But I believe that PDP of today is capable of organising free, fair, credible and transparent primaries.”
