Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, a former governor of Borno state, has buttressed the statement credited to Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, on Nigeria having a President of Igbo extraction in 2023.
Recall that Mustapha had on Tuesday in Owerri, the Imo state capital, during the South-East APC rally, said that 2019 will determine the political future of the Igbo people and make APC support the region when the need arises.
Sheriff, while speaking more on the SGF’s statement on Wednesday during a visit to Umuahia, the Abia state capital, said for the Igbo to produce Nigeria’s President in 2023 , the South-east zone is expected to offer President Muhammadu Buhari 6 million votes in the 2019 general elections to enable him return for second term in office.
He pointed out that with what he witnessed during the South-East APC rally for the re-election bid of President Buhari recently held in Imo state, Ndigbo were ready to return the President for second term during the 2019 polls.
According to the APC chieftain, “Igbo presidency in 2023 will only be determined by what the people of South-east zone will do in 2019. Igbo, if they want to lead this country in 2019, they should produce sufficient votes, six million votes and above so that they can say: yes, it is our turn, and the other parts of Nigeria will support them. But if they didn’t do it, others will take it.”
