Hassan Sherriff, the Sarkin Arewa of Bauchi State, has berated the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for allegedly trying to woo former President, Olusegun Obasanjo back into the party.
The PDP’s National Working Committee, NWC, led by the party’s National Chairman, Uche Secondus, had recently met with the former President.
But speaking during a briefing in Bauchi, Sherriff said the move would relegate the party to the background.
He noted that there was no sense in PDP begging the former President to return to the party as Obasanjo had publicly denounced the party by tearing his membership card.
He said: “What is PDP National Working Committee looking for from Obasanjo, who only a few years ago threw the party into the dustbin by tearing his membership card?
“I think this is the big question the entire membership of the PDP and its supporters ought to be asking themselves.
“I have decided to quit the PDP after serving the party for over 10 years because of all these anomalies in the party. The deliberate delay of the passage of the 2018 budget by the National Assembly members for seven months put a cog on the wheels of national development.”
