The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reacted to reports that ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo’s Coalition for Nigeria Movement endorsed the platform ahead of the 2019 election.
In a statement Thursday night, Adakole Ijogi, SDP spokesman said the party neither knows about such alleged endorsement nor would it encourage same.
He noted that although leaders of the two organisations have been in communication and would continue to explore possible areas of synergy, at no time did the SDP declare such endorsement.
“The SDP is in strategic discussions with numerous groups, stakeholders, political parties and high profile politicians, some of these discussions have birthed very fruitful partnerships, while others are at different stages of conclusion”, the statement added.
“As the Main Force in the unfolding political events leading to the 2019 elections, SDP will continue to follow the path of honour and integrity in setting the standard for a new political order in Nigeria.
“The party, which predates the current democratic dispensation, has won elections and now has grave national responsibilities in helping to enthrone a new set of political leadership based on strong core values, ideology and manifesto to birth a new order,” he said.
