2019: S’East leaders endorsing Buhari are hypocrites, ‘item 7’ politicians – Igbo youths

Young intellectuals from the South-East, under the aegis of Ochie Igbo organization, have condemned the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office by some Igbo politicians of the All Progressives Congress (APC) extraction.

DAILY POST recalls that the Igbo leaders in the APC, who endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for second tenure, however, demanded that Buhari should pay them back in 2023 by supporting a president of Igbo extraction in that year.

But in a statement signed by Dr. Chukwuma Orji and Theophilus Nwoba, the Ochie Igbo’s National President and Secretary respectively, the group said: “in the face of the free fall in democratic governance, rising insecurity and wanton killings and destruction of property, we are shocked and utterly disappointed by the action of some so-called leaders of South-East caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for 2019 in spite of the gory enactments in the country.

“We hereby register our condemnation of the show of shame displayed by these APC politicians at a period of great national grief, particularly to a President that has not condemned in strong terms or shown any sign of distaste for the mayhem and bloodletting allegedly committed by the murderous and marauding herdsmen.

“We are equally appalled by the chicanery of those ‘item seven’ politicians in APC for situating their endorsement of President Buhari on a plea for Igbo presidency in 2023.

The painful aspect of their ignoble excursion to the presidency is that the South-East APC leaders unwittingly support the despotic inclinations of the president, who continues to hold the ideals and tenets of democracy in utter disdain, especially in the area of federal appointments.”

“Consequently, in the light of the foregoing, Ochie Igbo makes bold to state that the endorsement by APC charlatans from South-East is nothing more than a fraudulent political transaction borne out of sheer hypocrisy and naivety.”
