Loyalists of some pro-Biafra groups on Sunday reportedly clashed at Okigwe, Imo State over conflicting interest ahead of the 2019 general election.
Comrade Peter Bassy, Director of Media and Publicity, of Okwudili Ezenachukwu-led faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, confirmed the clash in a statement to DAILY POST.
He said his group was against plan by some people to use the Biafra group to achieve some selfish motive.
According to him, “members and commanders loyal to Okwudili Ezenachukwu led IPOB faction opposed and frustrated the imposition of some disgruntled elements who sneaked into Igbo land with the back up of some expelled elements of the group working for some Abuja-based Igbo politicians who vowed to destabilize Igbo land.
“These expelled and runaway officers working with some unguided persons based in diaspora will never succeed in destabilizing or creating acrimonious atmosphere among pro Biafra groups.
“Major pro Biafra groups have resolved to work together as one family, with cordial understanding and diplomatic approach towards Biafra actualization and restoration.”
“IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Okwudili Ezenachukwu will no longer tolerate insubordination, sabotage and running of personal or family interest above Biafra interest. Soon we shall commence internal revolution of caution starting with the key players of Biafra agitation groups.
“Though we strictly stand for Biafra referendum, we shall still discuss with other pro-Biafra groups the advantages and disadvantages of allowing 2019 general elections to hold in Biafra land.
“Though the people of Biafra have been disenfranchised politically in Nigeria, Ndigbo have caused more internal harm to themselves through backbiting, sycophancy and wild gap between the elites and common man.
“This trend has devastated our people so much that we are more divided than being together. IPOB and other pro-Biafra groups loyal to Biafra, not ‘human-god’ with selfish interest that pose as supreme leaders will soon heal this destructive wounds in Biafra land by expressly associating with major Igbo socio political groups, opinion, religious, traditional and political Leaders.” he further stated.
