The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has emphasized that the party will resist every means that might be employed to rig the general election coming up next month (February).
According to the National Vice Chairman of the party in the South-West, Eddy Olafeso who stated this at the PDP stakeholders meeting held in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the election is all about the people, who he said will be vigilant all through the process.
While disclosing that the party has already commenced the sensitization of its members as well as the electorate on ways they can protect the ballot, the PDP chieftain maintained that rigging is no longer fashionable as voters are now politically conscious more than before.
“People must be vigilant. We are going to be watchful because whatever happens to Nigeria, happens to the whole world.
“On our own part, we are educating not only the voters, we are educating members of our party ,our agents that they must pay attention to what they are suppose to do on the day of voting.
“We are very confident that Nigerians will do the needful and ensure that rigging did not take place.
“In Africa not quite long, the people’s will prevail. Nobody in the 21st century can lay claim to authoritarian . It is not going to work here because our people will overcome in the final analysis.”
As regards the crisis rocking the party in Ogun and Ekiti states, Olafeso disclosed that the party’s machinery in charge of dispute resolution has been activated, which he said the desired results is already manifesting.
“We are doing everything to resolve it. I spoke with both parties from Ogun today, especially Senator Buruji Kashamu and Ladi Adebutu . It is a wonderful development that we have been able to unify our people at this moment.
“In Ekiti state, peace is a processs and we are looking at ensuring that everybody works together.
“Political parties is about disagreeing to agree and very confident that the main issue is the victory of the party and there is understanding between Fayose and Olujimi that the PDP must win in Ekiti.”
The Director General of the Atiku Presidential Campaign in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, who also spoke at the stakeholders meeting, stated that with Atiku as the President of Nigeria, the country would be piloted from what he described as her nosediving state.
“We are going to take the message to the grassroots in the nooks and crannies about the brand called Atiku.
“It is time for the country to get back to business of good governance. That is why we believe that Atiku is the man for the job now. We need someone that will generate employment opportunities and bring in funds. Let there be jobs ,let there be peace in this country. It is about the love of the country.”
Jegede, who was the PDP gubernatorial candidate during the last governorship election in the state, said that integrity should not be the only yardstick when voting for a president of a country like Nigeria.
He also iterated that Nigerians are however watching to see how the integrity of the President would play out during the election.
“We will continue to let our people know that we need free and fair election. Not only echoing integrity, you must demonstrate it, you must ensure you have a level playing ground.
“Security agencies must be allowed to do their work, INEC must be allowed to do its job and people must be allowed to vote.
“The results of this election must be announced ,that is the point. It is about this country,” Jegede stated.
