2019 Presidency: Ohanaeze youths blow hot, warns Imeobi against endangering Igbo nation

Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the apex Igbo youth organization, has warned Imeobi, against taking decisions that may endanger the fate of Ndigbo, as the nation approaches February 16 presidential election.

Ohanaeze had fixed Thursday (Today) for the apex meeting of the group, Imeobi, where the highest decisions of Ndigbo are made.

The spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chuks Ibegbu said Ndigbo would at the meeting on Thursday’s evening, take a position on which direction they will cast their votes.

However, OYC in a statement signed by its National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and forwarded to DAILY POST on Thursday morning, urged South-East governors and Igbo elders to be cautious in their pecuniary interests and allow Ndigbo to vote in the forthcoming presidential election, according to their conscience.

The statement reads, “Oanaeze Ndigbo Youths have never taken any stand on who the presidential candidate would be. We are pleading on Imeobi to be neutral in this forthcoming election.

“And also, if they go ahead and choose a particular candidate against one particular candidate, Ohanaeze youths would sit and review it, and make our position known.

” Ohanaeze youths is appealing to Imeobi, our revered elders and our governors, those who have succeeded in all facets of life, that Igbo youths are calling for caution, regards to where Igbos will vote in the forthcoming February 16 201 presidential election.

“Again, Ohanaeze Youth Council is in serious consultation meeting with pro-Biafran groups regards to the Presidential election coming soon. And it is on record that, pro-Biafran groups have been left out, and also the youths, in the decision making of where Igbos will go in the upcoming presidential poll.

“And we want to say this, we will never repeat the mistake of the past, where they will go and endanger the political future of Ndigbo, because of, pecuniary interests.

“We must live above the board. We must not sacrifice the fate of Igbo nation over peanuts. But rather, Igbo leadership should be neutral and allow the youths and the women, who are the core people that are participating in voting.

“They should allow General Assembly and the great Igbo nation to decide where Igbos will vote. Ndigbo should be allowed to vote according to their conscience. Until Ohanaeze youths with pro-Biafran groups decide where we will vote, any endorsement that will go contrary against the youths and pro-Biafran agitators will be resisted”.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, Ohanaeze Youth Council is meeting in Enugu in continuation of their consultation with Igbo stakeholders and pro-Biafran groups on the political direction of Igbo nation in the coming presidential election in the country.
