2019 polls: Ortom assures Benue IDPs of safety

Governor Samuel Ortom has assured Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in various camps across Benue State that his administration is collaborating with security agencies to guarantee their safety as they take part in Saturday’s elections.

The Governor gave the assurance yesterday when he visited the IDPs camps in Ugba and Anyiin in Logo Local Government Area. He also addressed his teeming supporters from Saghev, Kaambe and Abinsi, all in Guma Local Government Area.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of the displaced persons, saying that though keeping them in the camps for over a year had taken a toll on finances of the state, the government would not relent until security is fully restored in all their communities to enable them return home.

Governor Ortom stated that his second term in office will make life better for people of the state through good policies and programmes considering the fact that the economy of the country had improved after the recession.

The IDPs who spoke through their leaders, commended Governor Ortom for standing firmly with his people and refusing to betray them even at the expense of his relationship with the federal government.

They equally thanked the Governor for the care and love he had shown them, praying God to be with him, his family and the entire administration.

The IDPs said they were in support of Governor Ortom and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to emerge victorious from the Benue State governorship and presidential elections.

Also speaking on the occasion, former council chairman of Guma, Mr. Charles Torbunde, former commissioner in the state, Mrs. Rebecca Apezan and others who spoke for Saghev, Kaambe and Abinsi pledged their support for the reelection of the Governor and the election of all PDP candidates during the February 16th and March 2nd general election.
