2019: Plateau PDP elders advise Best, Mutfwang to respect zoning; drop governorship ambition

Following the recent zoning of the party’s governorship seat to Plateau South Senatorial Zone by the opposition PDP in Plateau State, a group under the aegis of Plateau Central PDP Elders Forum have called on Prof. Shadrack Best and Barrister Caleb Mutfwang to drop their governorship ambitions.

Both asp are from the Central Senatorial District and had indicated their interest to contest the 2019 Plateau State Governorship polls to both the leadership of the PDP at the Central Zone and the State Executive.

The Forum, made the call shortly after a marathon meeting held in Jos.

The group said, “we are satistfied with the zoning decision of the party (PDP).

It would be recalled that the party leadership in the State recently zoned the Governorship seat to the southern senetarorial zone of the state for the 2019 general elections in what it described as “zoning formular for the party in the state.’’

Chief John Mankilik, who is the Chairman of the forum, made the disclosure to journalists shortly after the meeting.

Mankilik said the call to the duo became imperative due to the desire of members of the party within the Central Senatorial zone to abide by the decision of the party executive.

The group said that it hope to sit with the duo and let them understand properly the decision of the leadership of the Party and that of the forum for harmonious and peaceful resolution and progress.

“We are appealing to our two aspirants, Prof Shadrack Best and Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, to drop their ambitions and key into the decision of the party more so that the contest is not a do or die affair.

“In fact, we don’t want a situation whereby people will be aggrieved and resolve to destroy or leave the party simply because they were not allow to pursue their ambitions, ’’ the elders explained.

The elders urged the duo to have a large heart and take the decision the party arrived at and give their support for the party’s victory in 2019.

They forum also frowned at the detention of former Governor, Jonah Jang by the EFCC over alleged fraud and called on the anti-graft agency to ensure that fairness and justice be its yardstick devoid of any witch hunt.

“The way and manner the anti-graft agency went about the arrest and arraignment leaves much to be desired as to us it was a calculated attaempt at crippling PDP as a opposition force on the Plateau, ’’ the elders claimed.

The forum also commended Kanam LG PDP leadership for scheduling May 14 for the official commissioning of its party secretariat, inauguration of LG Chairmanship Campaign Committee and welcoming of decampees into the party.

The elders were of the opinion that with the way and manner members of PDP within the zone were cooperating with one another and the leadership of the party, “there is hope of victory for the party at all levels on the Plateau come 2019.’’
