2019: PDP Youth Movement meets in Ibadan, vows to re-brand party

National Youth Movement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met in Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Wednesday resolving to “complement the efforts of the party leadership in re-branding, re-awakening and re-building the party”.

The meeting, which drew PDP youths from the six geo-political zones, took place at the Oyo State Secretariat of the party, Molete, Ibadan.

It was presided over by a party chieftain, Alhaji Yinka Folarin, with other dignitaries, including Comrade Usman Alkali who represented Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, a factional National Chairman of the party.

In his inaugural address, National Chairman of the group, Mr. Adesina Ademola described the event as “marking the beginning of a milestone in the annals of PDP”.

He said that with the reality of the moment, the party needed people who were truly committed to the ideals, principles and philosophy that formed the foundation of the PDP as a giant party in Africa, for the party to re-gain its relevance.

Ademola declared that “the PDP National Youth Movement will constitute itself into a think-tank group and shall be keenly interested in planning and strategizing so that PDP can regain its lost glory and re-gain its historical preeminence.”

“It is in realization of the goal of re-awakening the party, PDP, that this group is considering and planning to create an independent blog.

“When it is time, the blog will be seriously engaged in objective reporting, media publicity awareness drive and political mobilization of youths to assist the PDP bounce back into the place of reckoning,” Adesina said.

In a keynote address titled “PDP, the Youth and the Future”, a gubernatorial aspirant of PDP in Osun State, Barrister Kayode Oduoye insisted that youths have a lot in stock to galvanize the party’s stakeholders, including the elders.

He noted that the failure of the Party in the past to effectively carry along the youth had contributed to the messy position the party presently found itself.

Oduoye therefore called upon the youth to assert themselves by identifying their areas of strength and be in the vanguard of bailing out the PDP for future leadership positions.
