2019: PDP speaks on endorsing presidential aspirant

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reacted to a report in the section of the media claiming that a presidential aspirant has been endorsed by key leaders of the party.

The opposition party said the report was a fabrication from the imagination of the author and a calculated attempt to create disaffection in the party.

In a statement signed by the National Organizing Secretary, Col Rtd Austin Akobundu, he reminded Nigerians that the Prince Uche Secondus-led NWC had repeatedly made it clear that all party congress, would be free, fair, transparent and open.

The party said, “The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been drawn to a publication in one of the dailies claiming that one of the Presidential aspirants of our great party have been endorsed by the key leaders of our party.

“Nothing can be farther from the truth and all Nigerians are urged to disregard the publication as it is a fabrication from the imagination of the author even as he tried to make it look authoritative. It is calculated to create confusion.”

Col Akobundu emphasized that a re-branded PDP has no room for impunity and imposition of candidates.

He said that the transparent primaries conducted in Ekiti state last month that produced the PDP flag bearer for the July 14 gubernatorial election, is a testimony to the fact that PDP was determined to pursue rule driven processes.
