2019: PDP has not learnt its lessons yet – Hon. Kaze

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bitrus Kaze, has said the main opposition PDP has not learnt lessons yet from its past mistakes both at the state and national levels.

Kaze in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST in Jos, said the party has refused to implement the recommendations of Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s report.

“Both at the state and national, it doesn’t appear to me as if PDP has learnt its lessons very well.

“I say so because whenever I pick Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s report, and I see the fine recommendations, and I put a check mark on all of them. As at today, I’m not seeing really that any of the recommendations have been adopted and implemented. Certainly to me, it seems we are yet to learn our lessons.

“We are not contesting with a military government, neither are we are contesting against a party with a neutral arbiter, it is a government that is in power that we want to wrestle power from; and we cannot contemplate level playing ground for everybody.

“We cannot by any stretch of imagination cause anybody to suspect our good intention and our open fairness”.

On whether the PDP can wrestle power in Plateau State, the PDP Chieftain, who represented Jos South/Jos East constituency said, “It is possible for PDP to takeover power in the state, but as it stands today, that PDP has not been able to come out to speak openly, to say look, if in 2015 we made a mistake of not zoning the governorship, this time around, let us come out and pronounce clearly to Plateau people.

“Because that policy direction is highly important for us to give the State a sense of direction. Let the Plateau people know that last time we made a mistake, but this time, we will watch it.

“Like the national umbrella of the party agreed that the presidency should go to the North, let the party on the Plateau come out and say let governorship go to the South,”he advised.

“It is important for the PDP on the Plateau to come out clearly and boldly to declare that let the governorship in 2019 go to the Southern Senatorial Zone, but for one term; let the PDP also declare openly that by 2023 our ticket is coming to the Central Senatorial Zone.

“Doing so will begin to send away the suspicion that is beginning to gather.

“It would also create the enthusiasm among party enthusiast to support the PDP in 2019.

“But the fact that the party in the state has not been able to come out to say it made a mistake in 2015, can hamper our victory, ” he warned.
