A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain in Abia state, Sam Ekeledo has picked the ticket of the United Progressives Party, UPP, to contest for the Ikwuano/Umuahia constituency seat in the 2019 National Assembly elections.

Ekeledo, who is a former executive chairman of Umuahia North local government area of the state, defected to UPP in the state with over five thousands of PDP members and supporters.

He told newsmen in an interview Thursday evening, that his desire for a better opportunity for the people made him to dump PDP for the UPP.

When asked to assess the performance of the current representative of the constituency, Sam Onuigbo, the UPP candidate lashed out at the federal lawmaker over alleged poor representation.

He said, “Going down the memory lane, the people who had been there had been performing.

“But after Hon. Stanley Ohazuruka era,the impact of good governance began to lessen.

“Onuigbo, an excellent man anyway, but I do not think he did or is doing strong projects or even got the people really mobilized to the point they can say they are not satisfied.

“This time around, I’m coming with a politics of direct engagement with the people.”
