Twenty-five Chairmen of the state chapters of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) yesterday disowned the party’s national chairman, Ibrahim Bashir Yusuf, describing him as an impostor.
The chairmen who were reacting to Yusuf’s media statement associating the PDM with the Coalition of Progressive Political Parties (CPPP) said as an independent party, the PDM would field candidates for all elective positions including the Presidency in the 2019 general elections.
Spokesman of the group, who is the Niger State Chairman of the Party, Abubakar Abdullahi, told newsmen yesterday in Abuja that the Yusuf-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party was dissolved in November 2016.
He also said that Yusuf was no longer a member of the party as his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017 into the board of the Benin Owena River Basin Authority contravenes the provision of Article 18 (2) of the PDM Constitution.
“No member of the party shall hold the office of the party and government executive position at the same time,” Article 18 (2) of the party’s constitution reads.
In pledging their support to the Francis Igwebuike-led NWC, the party chairmen cautioned INEC, the media and the general public from dealing with Yusuf, noting that appropriate legal action would be taken against the ex-national chairman if he continues to impersonate Igwebuike.
“We want to let Nigerians know that Ibrahim Yusuf is not our chairman. He is an appointee of the APC administration. We decided to let Nigerians know that our loyalty is to the Francis Igwebuike leadership of our party,” Abdullahi said.
