A presidential aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Senator representing Plateau North, Jonah Jang, has assured Nigerians that if he is given the mandate come 2019 to govern the country, Boko Haram terrorism and herdsmen menace will be history.
Jang accused the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration of being unable to utilize the armed forces end recurring cases of killings in the country.
He stated this while submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.
“The APC has rubbished all that the PDP did in its 16 years in power, and if the APC is allowed to continue, this democracy will collapse again; and because I’m a lover of democracy, I have decided by the grace of the almighty God to take this step of faith to come into the race of the Presidency of Nigeria, because the security problems that we are facing the country today requires an experienced administrator like me.
“A man who has seen it all in the security of the nation, to be able to bring total peace to Nigeria.”
The immediate past governor of Plateau State continued, “I want assure the party that in me they have a president that will be able to end Boko Haram, that would be able to end the killings all over this country.
“Because I believe the present administration has not been able to utilize the armed forces of Nigeria that are known to be the best in black Africa and they have proved themselves all over the world, when they were sent for international assignments.
“And to see that things like Boko Haram, herdsmen killing people, to say that the military cannot solve this problem is not true.
“Not a military that you and I have been part of.”
He lamented that the military is now deployed on roadblocks, pointing out that this was not the practice in their time as military men.
“If I’m given the mandate as president, I will ensure the country is restructured, and as part of the restructuring, state police would be created, so that they can take care of the internal problems in the various states.”
Responding, the National Organising Secretary of the party, Col. Austin Akobundu (retd), assured Senator Jang of a level playground for all aspirants.
Akobundu said, “We will run a transparent Convention/primary.
“I know you as an astute administrator and as one of our outstanding PDP Governors, so I wish well in this race”.
