2019: Ikpeazu, others will use and dump you – APGA warns NYSC members in Abia

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has warned members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, currently serving in the state, not to allow themselves to be deceived and used by political desperadoes ahead of the 2019 general elections.

This came following Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s recent meeting with National Youth Service Corps members at Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia last week, where the governor allegedly doled out millions of naira to corps members in attendance.

APGA, in a statement signed by the state chairman, Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, and forwarded to DAILY POST on Sunday, viewed the governor’s generous disposition with suspicion, as the state approaches another election year.

The party, however, lambasted Ikpeazu for allegedly failing to make giant strides in the education sector, pointing out that the governor’s failure had adversely affected Abia students, who have been the greatest victims of infrastructural decays and repeated strike action by teachers over unpaid salary.

The statement reads, “The attention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Abia State chapter has been drawn to a suspicious meeting held recently between the Governor of Abia State Okezie Ikpeazu and some ‘Youth Corpers’ posted to the state, during which the governor made a cash donation running into millions.

“From the soothing words of the governor to the Corpers during the meeting, we have no doubt that the governor is desperate and desirous of some kind of emergency alliance with these Corpers who are obviously going to play some roles during the 2019 elections in Abia state.

“APGA views this sudden kind and generous disposition of the governor with suspicion, because the governor is not known to have made any giant stride in the education sector, neither has he ever initiated any notable policy that has impacted positively on the welfare of students, rather, his conspicuous failure in this sector has had adverse negative effect on students who have been the greatest victims of infrastructural decay and repeated strike action embarked upon by teachers in our institutions; the governor is certainly not a recognized friend of students, and should not start being one overnight through the wrong way.

“To our innocent Corpers, while we continue to wish you well and pray that you have a hitch-free service in Abia, we urge you to dread these foes that have put on the apparel of friendship with the intent of hoodwinking and using you to advance a self-serving course that would only expose you to danger.

“Do not allow yourselves to be deceived and used by these desperadoes who would not hesitate to abandon you when plunged into trouble.”
