Abia state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Johnson Onuigbo has identified impunity and imposition as major factors that led to the defeat of the party in many states during the 2015 general elections.
He stated that the current leadership of PDP in the state and the country as a whole, have resolved to choose their flag-bearers in forthcoming polls based on acceptability and popularity.
Onuigbo, who made this known in a chat with newsmen, on Monday, explained that the era of imposition of unpopular candidates on party members has gone, assuring aspirants vying for elective seats on the platform of PDP of a level-playing ground during primaries.
According to him, “Days are gone when unpopular candidates will be imposed on the party members.
“We are going to pick our candidates based on hardwork and popularity. I’m assuring them of a transparent primaries.
“We will resist any form of imposition in the party. Members will be allowed to freely choose candidates of their choice. Because we don’t want to repeat the mistake of the past where unpopular people will be foisted on the members of our party.”
