A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, has predicted that the party would win the 2019 election by a landslide.
Adebutu, a member of the House of Reps, urged the leadership of the party to be united to ensure victory in the 2019 general elections.
The lawmaker, who is eyeing the governorship seat of the state, noted that imposition of candidates would further polarise the party and might scuttle its chances in the next election.
He stated this on Friday at a meeting with the party leadership, members and supporters in Abeokuta.
The lawmaker added that the only way the PDP could bounce back in the state was for the leadership and party members to redouble their efforts to defeat the All Progressives Congress in 2019.
He said, “We are dealing with an incumbent (governor from another party) and it (victory) has to be a landslide. 51 per cent is not good enough; 55 per cent is not good as well. We must not be complacent. We should try as much as possible to avoid division in our party.
“I want us to win. We have 40 major elective positions in Ogun State. I am interested in one (governorship slot). I am not interested in a situation where an unpopular person would be foisted on the party. I will not impose people of my choice on anybody.”
