Armed hoodlums, Thursday, stormed Asarama community in Andoni local government area of Rivers state, venue of a defection rally organized by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
It was gathered that the hoodlums invaded the venue, firing live bullets into the air to scare the crowd and disrupt the rally.
DAILY POST reports that security operatives, who escorted politicians to the rally, responded to the invasion which led to an aggressive exchange of gunfire.
Commotion set in and the rally was disrupted, leaving many injured while scampering for safety through the swamps of Asarama.
The incident occurred during the defection of the immediate past Special Adviser to Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, on Federal Projects, Mmowan Oweh-Etete.
Earlier, Owoh-Etete told the crowd that he left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, because of alleged one-sided development programme of Governor Wike, who he said has spent most of his time developing his local government, Obio-Akpor.
“The current administration of Governor Nyesom Wike has been doing pancake projects,” he said.
On his part, Chairman of the APC in the state, Ojukaye Flag Amachree accused Wike of running the government like his private business, just as he maintained that APC will take over the Brick House come 2019.
