Former chairman of Ohaukwu local government area, Mrs. Elom Chinyere has dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ebonyi state.
Elom, the immediate past council boss of Ohaukwu during the former governor Martin Elechi administration, defected to PDP with over two thousand supporters.
The ex-council boss, who led her supporters to register at Nshingbo ward one, said her reason for returning to her former party was that she was overwhelmed with the sterling performances of the incumbent governor, David Umahi.
She reveled that her people had benefited immensely from Governor Umahi’s good roads, appointments as management committee members, liaison officers, adding that the governor also gave staff of office to their traditional ruler.
Elom maintained that she cannot abandon her political mentor, Senator Sam Egwu representing Ebonyi North senatorial zone in the national assembly, who according to her had impacted so much in her life.
She noted further that under PDP, She was appointed two times Special Assistant, SA, acting chairman at Ekumenyi, general manager of Ebonyi hotel and tourism board, and finally a substative chairman of Ohaukwu local government area.
The former chairman revealed that her reason for returning to PDP was not to look for any political position.
Responding, the Chairman of Ohaukwu local government area, Hon. Clement Omekannaya Odah, described the defection of Mrs Elom as important to the ruling PDP in the state.
He stated that Nshingbo ward one belonged to the PDP, and that party politics cannot be talked about in Ekwashi Mgbo without the family of Professor Sunday Elom.
