2019: Ex-CBN Deputy Governor, Mailafia reveals middle belt’s plan to unseat Buhari

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Obadiah Mailafia has revealed that people of the middle belt were in coalition with socio-cultural groups across the country to produce the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Speaking after he submitted his intent and nomination forms to contest the Presidential election in 2019 at the National headquarters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja, the foremost economist said, the development was at the instance of Afenifere socio-cultural group of South West Nigeria.

Adding that the middle belt was mandated to produce four presidential candidates out of which one would be chosen, he explained that he has been positioned through ADC to pick the job.

While he likened the condition of the country to a broken palace of a reigning king, he vowed to rebuild the country, saying the Buhari-led government is highly incompetent.

Flanked by the National officers of the ADC, Mailafia further opined that the new Nigeria can possibly be built through a well thought economic approach.

According to him, he was opportuned to interact with diverse groups as a leader of the middle belt forum, saying the solution to the pernicious situation of Nigerians was to first understand that things have gone wrong with the system.

“Early this year, a coalition of socio-cultural groups entered into a dialogue with a middle belt forum to come out with 4 Presidential candidates in their readiness to be anointed.

“Since Gen. Yakubu Gowon era, no middle belt man has been President despite his huge success as a military man.

“Nigeria today is like a king’s palace which was burnt, if it is rebuilt, it would be better than the first one, so I will build a better Nigeria having been destroyed through bad leadership. ”

Traumatised over the plight of Nigerians orchestrated by bad leadership, he said Nigeria has won the dubious prize as the poverty capital of the world.

“History showed that the military regime was the most pernicious form of government ladened with impunity and since then, infrastructures which were built have disappeared”, he said.

“Today, Nigeria has won the dubious prize of the capital of poverty in the world”, he added.

Speaking, the ADC’s National Coordinator, Electoral Matters and INEC, Chief Anayo Arinze expressed optimism that other political parties would cooperate with ADC to win the presidential election.
