2019 elections: NSCDC warns Kogi politicians

Politicians have been urged to avoid the use of hate speeches and negative comments that are capable of inciting violence among supporters.

Kogi State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Mr Ayodele Philip, gave this advice while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja on Monday.

Mr Philips, who assured that the Command is adequately prepared to ensure a credible election, urged politicians to abide by the rules guiding electoral campaign in order not to truncate the existing peace in the state.

He called for an issue-based campaign and avoidance of politics of bitterness that is expected in a true democratic setting.

Mr Philips disclosed that the command had embarked on series of training with sister organizations to maintain peace before, during and after the elections.

On the allegation that security agencies were used to perpetrate fraud in some of the elections conducted so far, the Commandant, who assured of the unbiased role of the command, stressed that his men will not engage in partisan politics.

He appealed to the public to assist in the aspect of intelligence gathering to enable the command realise its core mandate of ensuring peace and order as well as the protection of lives and property.
