The Muslim Congress (TMC), Ogun State chapter, on Tuesday, revealed the candidates the people of the state should vote for in the general elections billed to take place on Saturday, February 16th and Saturday, March 2nd in the state.
The Waali of the Ogun State chapter of TMC, Dr. Ibrahim Ogunkoya in a statement made available to DAILY POST, asked Muslims in the State to vote for either Muslim or Christian candidates who are capable and will be just to the course of Islam in the state.
Ogunkoya in the statement asked Muslims in the state to vote only credible and competent candidates that will protect their interests in the state.
He said, “Though we have preferences for candidates who identified themselves as Muslims and their level of commitments is well known to the Muslim communities, we cannot longer be deceived by the so-called Muslims who identify with the religion only by name and for electoral benefits.
“In the circumstance where we have Christian candidates who have the capacity to deliver good governance, and adequately show understanding and commitment to the rights of Muslims; definitely we will prefer such candidates to the ones who are Muslim by name and incompetent.
“This is what will decide Muslim choices of candidates to vote for in the Presidential and National Assembly elections on February 16 as well as the Governorship and State House of Assemblies by March 2, 2019 in Ogun State.”
“We know the antecedents of all the political candidates and adequately understand their attitudes, actions and inactions towards Islam and Muslims. We will In Sha Allah (grace of Allah) be guided by these in our choice as Muslims in Ogun State.”
“We are more determined than ever to be a deciding factor on who becomes the presidential, governorship and lawmakers in the next dispensation.”
“We are also happy that the issues of return Of public schools to missionaries, use of hijab in public institutions and gross misrepresentations/under-representation of Muslims at all level of public engagements in Ogun State is now on the front burners.”
“Our message to all political candidates in the 2019 general elections in Ogun State is that: ‘you are either for us or against us’ in this matter. ”
“We are not in any way asking that our interests as Muslims in Ogun State be protected at the expense of the Christians, all our demands and agitations will not in any affects the rights of our Christians brethren. This will not also hamper peaceful co-existence in the State. ”
“We use this opportunity to call on all stakeholders in the electoral process to play the game according to its rules with a bid to ensure free, fair, peaceful and violent free elections”.
