The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, Alhaji Umaru Funtiri, has alleged plans by the state government, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), to rig the forthcoming gubernatorial election by using ballot papers thumb-printed before hand.
Fintiri at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting Monday afternoon in Yola, claimed that PDP’s secret agents in the APC had given the party credible hints of the their plans.
The PDP flagbearer told stakeholders, who met at the Muna Hotel in Jimeta that the APC was stockpiling thumb-printed ballot papers for use during the election.
He said, “There are already thumb-printed ballot papers in possession of the APC-led government in the state. It is as privileged information to us in the PDP.”
He charged security agents in the state to investigate and check the development as his party was not taking it lightly.
He said, “The relevant authorities must put their acts together so that the elections are fair and nothing short of that will be tolerated.”
Also speaking, a former governorship aspirant of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Modibbo, urged the stakeholders to see the alleged plan by the APC government to rig election as the more reason they must ensure every vote for the PDP candidates at all levels.
He advised them to vote particularly for the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, so that his victory could achieve a trickle down effect for the PDP candidates in the subsequent governorship and House of Assembly elections.
In a quick reaction to the allegation of rigging plan against the state government, the Spokesman of Governor Mohammed Bindow, Mr. Macauley Hunohashi, said the allegation was the ranting of individuals and a party in fear of imminent defeat.
“The PDP should show proof to the world the substance of their allegation . They should show the fake thumb-printed ballot papers they are insinuating,” Hunohashi said.
