The Nigerian Military has said that the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, was quoted out of context during his (El-Rufai) Wednesday’s interview with the Nigeria Television Authority, NTA.

The military also said that it was not speaking anyone’s mind, but will focus on its own intelligent observations.

The military was responding to a question on whether Governor El-Rufai spoke the mind of the military when he threatened that those who intervene in the forthcoming general elections will “go back in body bags”

The Military spoke in a press conference addressed by Brigadier General John Agim, the Acting Director of Defence Information on the forthcoming general elections.

Asked about El-Rufai’s comment, Brig. Gen. Agim said, “We have a very big responsibility as journalists to ensure that we don’t take things out of context to generate unnecessary tension. Let me start by saying that the Military is not speaking anybody’s mind.

“The Military is talking about what they’ve observed, and we don’t want to talk about whether there are foreign collaborators or whatever. We’ve already said that there are foreign collaborators which means they are working with citizens.

“We are talking to our citizens; we are talking to our people. We have intelligence on whoever that want to do anything. The reason being that if there’s any problem, it is the military that will be called upon to clear the crisis.

“So we’re very serious concerning the issue of the election. A lot of people are very apprehensive of whether the election will be free and fair. And some people even misinterpreting our deployments.”
