2019: Ebonyi APC guber aspirant, Adol Chris petitions Buhari over destruction of billboards

A gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State, Mr. Adol Awam Chris, on Thursday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene over destruction of his bill board by thugs allegedly loyal to the Ebonyi government.

Awam, the general Overseer of Eternal Light of World Christian Church, also alleged that his supporters were being attacked by thugs ahead of the 2019 general election.

He made this known while briefing journalists in Abakaliki at his campaign office located along at the old Abakaliki-Enugu road, expressing fear that his supporters were no longer safe.

“I call on the federal government of Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari to come to the rescue of Ebonyi citizenry as no one can sleep any longer with his two eyes well closed for fear of the unknown,” he claimed.

The General overseer said that the billboard mounted opposite the Government House was for evangelism purpose and not for political campaign, but accused government of sponsoring loyalists to tear it apart.

He further alleged that the billboard was removed after he declared his intention to run for the governorship position in the 2019 general election.

This was even as he alleged that the members of the opposition parties, especially the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been going through lots of challenges because of their stand in the political arena.

“I wish to state that the billboard was destroyed immediately I declared for the governorship and that the billboard is for evangelism and not for political campaign”, he said.

In a swift reaction, Governor David Umahi, through the Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, dismissed the allegations as baseless.

He said that his principal could not condescend that low to direct the destruction of the church’s billboards simply because their General Overseer declared interest in the 2019 governorship race.

He, however, directed the leadership of the church to meet with the Abakaliki Capital Development Board (ACTDB) for clarifications on the terms and conditions of mounting billboards in the state capital, suggesting that it might have been removed by ACTDB for not meeting their terms.
