Hundreds of protesters from speaker Yakubu Dogara’s Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro constituency, Monday shut down Bauchi Independent National Electoral Commission’s office.
This followed protest over alleged attempt by the electoral body to again relocate the existing collation centre from Zwall to Dass LGA of Bauchi state.
Leader of the protesters, Ya’u Soja hinted reporters that they are in INEC to kick against its purported plans to relocate collation centre away from Zwall.
“We are in INEC to tell the world that all 30 political parties including APC are vehemently against any attempt to relocate collation away from Zwall to Dass with the tacit support of the electoral body in the claim of insecurity,” said Soja.
Soja added that APC is in fear of losing the next general elections due to Dogara’s popularity and achievement in the areas.
The constituents irrespective of any political difference, Soja stressed are not interested in any move for the relocation of the collation centre.
The protesters had brandished placards with various inscriptions.
The constituents had warned INEC to, ”follow the path of honour and steer clear in their tacit support for APC ahead of the general election
“We will not succumb to APC’s pressure apparently to disenfranchise our people from voting candidates of our choice, especially Dogara”, added the constituents.
Mallam Yahaya, heads of voters registration and publicity who addressed the protesters urged them to exercise patience as the electoral body will do everything possible to address their grievances.
He said INEC was a respecter of the law and will not succumb to any unlawful act to jeopardize its duty.
