As electioneering for the 2019 general elections heats up, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustafa has warned politicians contesting for elective positions against patronising thugs or using abusive words.
The CP, who made the assertion exclusively in a chat with DAILY POST on Saturday urged political candidates to shun sentiments as they go about their campaigns.
He said, “It is an electoral offence if you incite anyone to breach the peace of the land and the law will take its course. My advice is that everyone should play by the rules of the game.”
CP Mustafa, who disclosed that the Delta State Police Command will soon call a stakeholders meeting to formally hand the warning to the politicians, commended DAILY POST for taking the lead in electoral reportage ahead of other media establishments.
This is coming as politicians across the state are warming up to kickstart their campaigns, even as ritual killings are on the rise.
Some residents, who spoke to DAILY POST in Warri, said security operatives should give more attention to some politicians with criminal records together with Yahoo Boys, who parade ill-gotten wealth, to decrease the rate of ritual killings in the state.
