Barcelona legend, Andres Iniesta, has said that Ernesto Valverde’s side were the favourite candidates that can win this year’s Champions League.
Iniesta, who left Barca for Japanese side, Vissel Kobe last summer, believes the Camp Nou club have the aspiration to win the Europe topflight league title this term.
The La Liga champions became the first club to qualify for the Champions League round of 16 knockout stages following their 1-1 draw with Inter Milan.
Barcelona will tackle French Ligue 1 side, Lyon in the last 16 next month and are favourites to go through to the quarter-finals.
“I always think they [Barcelona] can win this season’s Champions League trophy,” Iniesta was quoted by Sport as saying.
“They’re ambitious and with aspirations to win everything. After that, there are moments when things can go better or worse.
“This team deserves more Champions Leagues than they have won. I hope this season they take the step forward which has been lacking in recent years.”
