Secretary to the Bauchi state chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Mahmood Babaji has resigned his position as crisis is said to have hit the party.
DAILY POST gathered that the resignation followed rumours of crisis in the chapter of the party.
It was learnt that Babaji resigned after a failed attempt to impose and single-handedly appoint unpopular politician as the party’s gubernatorial candidate without the conduct of primary election.
Adamu Sufi was said to be the anointed candidate of Babaji, but both lost out to Muhammed Shuaibu, who is currently the party’s guber candidate.
The state chairman of the party, Engineer Mohammed Barde confirmed the resignation of the secretary to DAILY POST on Saturday.
He said Babaji resigned over reasons best known to him.
Barde stressed that there was no time both of them quarrelled in the course of carrying out their official work.
He exonerated the party from any supposed crisis leading to the resignation of Babaji.
“It’s normal such events in every political party for someone to resign and that is the beauty of democracy,” Barde said.
He however pointed out that NNPP is not like the All Progressives Congress, APC where gale of defections hits it on daily basis over alleged injustice done to their members.
