2019: Atiku speaks on govt making money from crypto-currency

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has said the the Federal Government will support blockchain and cryptocurrency if he is elected as president in 2019.

He stated this in his ‘Get Nigeria Working Again’ policy document analysed by DAILY POST on Saturday in Abuja.

Under the section on promoting the new economy, the ex-Vice President revealed that he aims to speed up the economy positively through blockchain and cryptocurrency.

To achieve this, Atiku said he will direct the production of a comprehensive policy on blockchain and digital currencies by relevant government agencies to ensure that those areas were regulated and managed in a way that provides job opportunities as well as income for the government and people of Nigeria.

He said: “In harnessing the potentials of the new economy, we shall promote the Production of a comprehensive policy on block chain technology and crypto-currencies by the relevant government agencies.

“The terms of this mandate will ensure that these areas are regulated and managed in a way that provides job opportunities as well as income for the government and people of Nigeria.

“Regulation will provide clarity for informed decision making, in this $278 billion industry that consists of 1,800 currency types.”

He also vowed to enhance ICT literacy initiatives from early school programs to adult education.

“My mission is to ensure that Nigeria’s economy is responsive to the challenges of the 21st century knowledge economy by keeping with the amazingly dynamic technological pace,” Atiku said.

Nigeria’s presidential election is scheduled for February 16, 2019.

However, the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC)’s President Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar, Ezekwesili of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Donald Duke of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Kingsley Moghalu of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) will engage in a public debate on December 14.
