2019: APGA aspirant, Ukandu-Okpi defects to SDP, accuses party of corruption

A House of Assembly aspirant at the just-concluded primaries of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Abia state, Chika Ukandu-Okpi, has dumped the party for the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the state.

Ukandu-Okpi, who is vying for the Umuahia central constituency seat, said she joined SDP with thousands of APGA members and supporters.

She spoke in an interaction with newsmen, on Saturday, lamenting her experiences in APGA while pursuing her political ambition to secure the ticket of the party.

She said, “I will use this medium to say that my stint in the APGA was a nightmare, I am yet to wake up from.

“Because, the level of corruption and insincerity I witnessed during the APGA primaries, I have never seen it all in my life.

“Sometimes, I wonder the type of governance APGA, that is bankrupt and lacking integrity will give to the people. And I’m at home being in SDP with my supporters, because, I have the optimism that SDP will sack the PDP-led government in 2019 and enthrone the needed change, Abians are yearning for.

On what should be expected from her if she emerges victorious in the upcoming election, Ukandu-Okpi said, “if given the opportunity to represent Umuahia Central state constituency in the coming elections, I will sponsor bills that will mandate the government to embark on urban renewal policy, develop Umuahia urban and bring it up to the status of a state capital”.
