A government delegation from the United Kingdom has met with the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to discuss various issues concerning the 2019 general elections in Nigeria.
The meeting, which held at the national secretariat of the APC Tuesday, had the UK delegation led by the Head of West Africa Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London, Mr Rob Dixon.
Mr, Dixon, who spoke to journalists after the close-door interaction, said the meeting dwelt on the forthcoming 2019 general election and the UK’s engagements in Nigeria.
“We talked about the extent of the UK’s engagements in Nigeria and also asked the APC National Chairman on his perspectives on political developments in Nigeria.
“We talked about the breadth of the UK’s relationship whether it is what we are doing to help Nigeria fight Boko Haram in the Northeast and supporting economic development across the country. We also talked about shared interests for a smooth and peaceful elections and what the prospects for the campaign might be in the course of the next 12 months,” Dixon added.
The APC National Chairman, during the meeting, voiced the commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration to deliver on 2015 election promises to Nigerians.
Chief Odigie-Oyegun spoke about the achievements of the present administration in the area of economic diversification, infrastructure, anti-corruption and security, particularly in the country’s North East.
He thanked the UK government for its continued cooperation and support for the administration.
