2019: APC positions Sheriff to control Northeast

Fresh facts have emerged that the All Progressives Congress, APC, may be preparing former Borno Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff for the control of the Northeast ahead of 2019.

Sources within the APC in Borno who pleaded to remain anonymous told DAILY POST that they were worried over the calculation APC was making in Borno State.

According to them, the return of Sheriff to the APC was nothing but a strange relationship.

“There is no doubt that Sheriff is a party big spender, but we have in Borno state are concern that his coming would jeopardise the unity of our members.

“Everybody knows that Sheriff would not submit to the leadership of our governor. And if at the National they gave him the control of Northeast, definitely he would want to put his interest particularly in Borno, which is the problem we are going to have with him,” a stakeholder of the APC in Borno told DAILY POST.

Sources close to Senator Modu Sheriff also told our correspondent that the former Borno governor had a secret meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari over the party’s arrangement for 2019.

It was also gathered that Sheriff has held similar meeting with Buhari’s Chief of staff, Malam Abba Kyari over his desired new position for the control of the Northeast.

According to sources, the party’s determination to bring Senator Ali Modu Sheriff may also not be unconnected with the presidency’s move to check former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who is planning to dumb APC by December 2017.

“Sheriff is considered the perfect choice that will coordinate the entire Northeast for the APC in 2019.

“He has the blessing of the former President Olosegun Obasanjo, who also advises Buhari to do so for APC to have control of the region,” the source said.

Meanwhile, DAILY POST also learnt that APC had started monitoring its members who are likely to frustrate the effort of the party in 2019.

The party is also alleged to have been making moves to ‘water the hands’ of some strategic National Officers, who are seen to have been making moves to abandon ship with Atiku.
