2019: APC names ex-governor jailed for corruption in campaign council

All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Plateau state, Simon Lalong, has named former Governor, Joshua Dariye and 48 others as members of the campaign council of the party in the state.

Dariye is currently serving a 10-year jail term in Kuje Prison after he was convicted by an Abuja High Court for corruption in the misappropriation of the state fund while serving as governor between 1999 and 2007

A statement signed by Mark Longyen, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lalong on Media and Publicity, and made available to journalists in Jos on Sunday night, said the campaign council has the governor as chairman, with his deputy, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, as deputy chairman.

The statement further said that the 49-member council, which would work for the re-election bid of the governor and President Muhammadu Buhari, also has Hon Letep Dabang, Plateau State APC chairman; Rt Hon Joshua Madaki, Speaker of the state House of Assembly; Solomon Dalung, Minister of Youth and Sports, and x-governor, Joshua Dariye, as members among others.

Recall that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja last year reduced the 14 years sentence against Dariye, to 10 years.

The presiding judge of the court, Justice Stephen Adah, reduced the charges with 14 years to 10 years, while the charges with two years were reduced to one year each. The sentences are running concurrently.
