Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State have kicked against automatic tickets to defectors from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
They warned leadership of the party that such move could lead to serious crisis.
The leaders, in a letter signed by Dr. Imade Festus and addressed to the APC caucus leader in the state and former governor Adams Oshiomhole, said free tickets to people who didn’t labour for the party will affect its chances in 2019.
He said, “People have laboured in this party before now and we feel that they deserve to be compensated.
“We are raising this alarm because we have it on good authority that the senator representing Edo South, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, is negotiating his way back to APC, the same way Senator Ehigie Uzamere did and got the ticket of APC for his second term.
“Urhoghide intends to move to APC when it became clear that the hierarchy of the PDP in the state is asking Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to run for the Senate in Edo South so as to run for the 2020 governorship as a senator if he wins.”
“It is sad that the politics of PDP is affecting the APC in the state despite how hard most people have worked to keep the party united.
“We are saying that we are no fools and will resist any attempt to give automatic tickets to PDP defectors.
“We are not against people joining the party but we believe that when they come they should queue behind others who have been in the party before.
“Edo South is the biggest senatorial district in Edo State and our party leaders must be careful by ensuring equity and justice to members so that the party will not be plunged into crisis ahead the general elections.
“We must avoid any action that will give the PDP edge ahead the elections”.
