Amb. Chidike Ukauwa, a frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress,APC, Sunday, announced his withdrawal from the Abia State gubernatorial race.

Ukauwa explained that his decision to back out from the race, was to ensure high number of aspirants jostling for the governorship seat in 2019 election were cut down, so as to enable APC leadership in Abia to produce a credible and acceptable candidate for the upcoming 2019 general elections.

The governorship hopeful who spoke with DAILY POST, in a chat on Sunday, used the opportunity to clear the air, that he was settled and induced by a certain governorship aspirant in APC to step down from the race.

The APC chieftain also revealed that he was withdrawing from the governorship race to support his co-contestant , Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, whom he described as a man of integrity that had impacted positively in the lives of the people, particularly youths.

According to Ukauwa, “I am here to set the record straight, that I have withdrawn from the governorship race of Abia after a consultation with the leaders and stakeholders of APC”.

“Again, nobody induced me to back out of the race. I stepped down in the interest of Abia people. I stepped down for Dr. Uche Ogah, who is also one of the gubernatorial aspirants because I have confidence in him(Ogah) that if given the ticket to emerge as APC flag bearer, he will salvage the people from clutches of PDP bad administration”.
